Vernon George would rather spend Saturday night at Ford Field with his family. “I got season tickets for my family two years ago and this year,” George informed me. “We’ve went to every game and never sold a ticket. We have a great time.
“We love it.” However, the co-owner of Stadium Market in Ann Arbor would have to make a sacrifice in order to attend the Detroit Lions’ NFC Divisional Round game against the Washington Commander.
“I experienced bittersweet emotions. I’m so excited, joyful, and proud of the Detroit Lions; I can’t wait for them to do even more. But I’m disappointed since I’ll be here instead of at the game.” George stated.
He’ll be cheering for the Lions from his store. George hoped the game would be on Sunday, January 19, 2025, when he is generally off. “My wife, daughter, and I worked all day Saturday. We do not have somebody to cover. As you could expect, it’s the biggest game of the year, so no one wants to come in and cover our shift,” George explained.
And closing on Saturday is not an option, especially because the store is expected to be quite crowded.
“We cannot afford to close. This particular business supports my family and my brother’s family, and we also help our mother out. So it is not simple to lose that income,” George explained.
Although George could make a large profit by reselling his five tickets, he has no intention of doing so. George said he’d probably give them away to family or friends. “My mind process is to identify someone who has probably never gone to a game before and would like to go. I’d rather donate it to someone who would have a similar, wonderful time with their family. But selling them for profit is not an option for me,” George explained.
