The Atlanta Braves are now in need of free agents. Atlanta lost Max Fried to free agency this offseason and should now be looking for another starter. Free agency has stalled, although there are some possibilities available that would be useful additions at this time.
Mark Bowman of MLB.com recommended that the Braves rejoin with veteran starting pitcher Charlie Morton to bolster the rotation. “Veteran starter Nathan Eovaldi was a potential target before he signed a three-year, $75 million deal with the (Texas Rangers),” he said. “Outfielder Max Kepler appeared to be a nice fit before signing a one-year, $10 million contract with the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Braves have naturally considered alternative options. However, they may eventually have to return to the 41-year-old Morton, who has stated that he is willing to pitch at least one more season.
“Morton has been a crucial member of Atlanta’s rotation for the past four seasons, helping to develop young starters such as Spencer Strider and Spencer Schwellenbach. He might no longer be a front-line starter. However, with a one-year contract for around $10 million, he might give the Braves with much-needed rotational insurance.
He has made at least 30 starts in each of the last six 162-game seasons. Morton earned $20 million with the Braves last season and has been with them since 2021. With Fried gone, a reunion appears to be the most straightforward method for Atlanta to add another player to the rotation. He posted a 4.19 ERA last season and should definitely be welcomed back.
