The Los Angeles Angels hope to rebound from another poor season. General manager Perry Minasian believes that having players compete for starting spots will help the squad progress. A significant concern is whether third baseman Anthony Rendon will return to the Angels’ lineup. “He’s gonna have to come in and show us he can still play and earn the right to play every day,” Minasian stated during Foul Territory.
“Anthony knows what type of player he is when healthy so we need him healthy,” according to Minasian. “We need him on the field; he understands that. He is aware of the expectations that will be placed on him upon entering camp. Are we a better team with Anthony Rendon on the field? Absolutely.
Do we need a healthy Anthony Rendon, who is a devastating batter in the box and has one of the best instincts for the game today? Yes, we need it. He is well aware of that. He’s going to do everything he can this summer to be ready to play, and we’ll see where he stands.
Minasian’s ambiguous words have generated speculation that the Angels are considering acquiring another third baseman. While the New York Mets are not actively looking to deal third baseman Brett Baty, they have held talks with teams who are interested. Baty’s performance in 2024 was average, hitting.229 with four home runs and 16 RBIs, but he is still a trade target.
The Angels could pursue Baty this offseason, but no deal has been confirmed. Other teams are also considering trading third basemen.
