The three-game punishment of Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair for tackling Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence has shocked the NFL community. The penalty was challenged, but upheld, therefore Al-Shaair will miss the next three games.
There has been much controversy about the decision, but San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel backed his former teammate. “I know Azeez very well, and it wasn’t intentional,” Samuel told Bleacher Report via Sideline Sarah. “I know him personally.
He spent four years here, and in practice, we had him, Fred [Warner], and [Dre] Greenlaw—three of the most powerful hitters I’ve ever seen. That is how it was every day. The clip does not reflect his personality. If I were him, and someone hit the back of my skull, I’d go into defensive mode. I just believe three games is a bit excessive.”
While Al-Shaair is suspended, the Texans will face the Miami Dolphins on Sunday at 12:00 PM CT at NRG Stadium.
