The Detroit Lions defeated the Green Bay Packers 34-31 on Thursday Night Football in Week 14, giving Dan Campbell’s team a 12-1 record and sole ownership of the NFC’s top spot after 14 weeks.
The Lions have won a franchise record 11 straight games following a 1-1 start, and will play the Buffalo Bills in Week 15 at Ford Field in a possible Super Bowl preview.
The Lions’ offense remains one of the most dominant units in the NFL, and while quarterback Jared Goff, the running back tandem of David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs, and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown are largely responsible for Detroit’s offensive success, third-year wide receiver Jameson Williams is finally blossoming.
Though Williams has had numerous off-the-field incidents in his brief career, his brilliance is undeniable. The No.12 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft is one of the most exciting young playmakers in football, averaging 18.2 yards per reception in 11 games this season, ranking among the league’s top five. Williams also grabbed in 39 catches for 710 yards and four touchdowns in 2024.
Williams had another strong performance against the Packers in Week 14, leading the club in receiving yards with 80 and making five catches.
The 23-year-old had a good day, but the same cannot be said about Green Bay wide receiver Jayden Reed, who received only one target and did not make a grab in the Packers’ loss to the Lions.
During an appearance on the “St. Brown Podcast” on October 11, Reed encouraged Amon-Ra St. Brown to wait until he gets to Detroit, referring to the Packers’ Week 14 game against the Lions. Obviously, the young receiver’s comments backfired, as Reed did not record a single receiving yard on Thursday Night, and Jameson Williams did not mince words about the Packers wide out.
Williams responded to a Bleacher Report Betting Instagram post by absolutely roasting Reed, wondering whether the former second-round pick ever came to Detroit.
Reed responded to the former Alabama standout by asking the Lions receiver to do his homework on career statistics. Finally, Williams responded to the 24-year-old’s response, claiming that a player is only as good as their last game, alluding to Reed’s catchless night in Detroit on Thursday.
