Charles Barkley does not believe the Golden State Warriors have what it takes to win it all this season. At 12-8, the Warriors are now seventh in the Western Conference team rankings, and if the regular season ended today, they would lead the West’s play-in tournament.
That’s relatively excellent considering Klay Thompson left in free agency, and Steph Curry and Draymond Green are another year older. However, “The Chuckster” is not buying that story.
“They’re a fun little team to watch,” Barkley stated. “When they make threes, they are difficult to beat. However, as I already stated, I do not believe in the Warriors. “But they’re cute and entertaining to watch.”
The Warriors were making three-pointers at the start of the season. That’s why they got out to a hot start, going 12-3 and briefly leading the Western Conference team standings. But the law of averages has caught up to them, and Steve Kerr’s 13-man rotation suddenly appears silly.
With Steph shooting just 29-77 (37.6 percent) from the field in his previous four games and missing one in between, the Warriors have lost five straight games and are now outside the Top 6 in the West. According to the Hall of Famer, it’s because they don’t have anyone to rely on other than “Chef.”
“I just don’t think they have enough talent,” added Chuck. “They got a bunch of JAGs. They got Steph and a bunch of JAGs – just a guy. And they don’t have enough star power.”
Only Steph Curry, Andrew Wiggins, and Draymond Green have ever represented the Warriors in an All-Star game. And only “Chef” and Dray have made the All-NBA squad. However, given that Wiggins and Green haven’t made an All-Star squad since 2022, and the latter hasn’t made an All-NBA team since 2017, Chuck has a legitimate argument about the Warriors being JAGs.
The Warriors blew a 104-94 lead against Denver on Tuesday night, losing 115-119. Curry went 8-23 from the field and 4-15 from three points. With their lone superstar unable to hit his shots and Green out with an injury, the “JAGs” lost to the 2023 champs for the fifth time in a row. Before the season began, Barkley anticipated that the Warriors, along with the Los Angeles Lakers, would be play-in tournament teams rather than championship challengers. With the Warriors at No.7 and the Lake Show at No.9, Chuck feels like Nostradamus right now.
