Last week, Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs caused a stir on social media by posting a picture from inside the Lions meeting room. A whiteboard behind fellow RB Jermar Jefferson displayed the offensive line’s pass protection calls, revealing the code words and tweaks for the world–and opposing defenses–to see and learn.
The tweet was brought to Detroit head coach Dan Campbell’s notice at the end of a news conference, and a very puzzled Campbell walked away while noting,
“I need to look into that. I wasn’t aware of that. Yeah, I’d rather not have our stuff out there. The head coach seemed unconcerned about the situation. Far from it.
“I don’t really give a crap,” Campbell stated Monday during his weekly radio appearance on 97.1 The Ticket. “If we lose because of code words, we aren’t good enough. So I guess we’ll simply disclose the entire fricking playbook, including every code word we have. And it doesn’t matter. It’s not going to injure or affect us, and everything is fine.” Campbell pointed out that everything is already recorded.
“It’s all out there and you can find any and everything that you need on the tape and how to attack people, how they’re going to attack you and no, listen, I’m not losing sleep over that.” He said that Gibbs was not penalized for mistakenly disclosing the information.
