Trent Williams, a San Francisco 49ers standout, and his wife Sondra have confirmed the death of their infant son.
Williams’ wife Sondra stated that the couple was expecting twins but lost one of them during the pregnancy. Sondra said on Instagram on Monday, ‘My Forever Angel, Trenton O’Brien Williams Jr. It’s been really difficult to digest the most heartbreaking Hello and Goodbye I’ve ever experienced.
‘Last Sunday night, 11/24/24, I welcomed your lifeless 4lb 8oz, 18.5in long little corpse at 11:38 p.m. At only 35 weeks, your profound and timely entrance did not even provide mommy time to acquire an epidural.
Despite my best efforts, I was not prepared for our meeting, and I never would be. ‘After losing your twin early in the pregnancy, I prayed and hoped that your Trisomy 13 diagnosis was incorrect and that my long-awaited lovely Son-shine would not suffer the same fate. My eldest and only son, I’ve always wanted you, but God wanted and needed you even more.
‘Knowing you are in Heaven with your immense-Aunt Vivian and will always be our Guardian Angel gives me immense peace in the middle of all this pain. My heart feels heavy.
‘Coming home without you in my arms has been a difficult adjustment. My eyes welled up with tears as I realized that I would never be able to watch you grow up alongside your sisters.
‘I can’t begin to express how I felt leaving the hospital without you. Nor how it feels to be home for Thanksgiving without my baby in my arms. “My heart is broken, and my arms are empty.”
The couple has three daughters together. Williams, 36, did not play in the 49ers’ game against the Bills in Buffalo on Sunday due to an ankle ailment. Williams began his career in Washington in 2010, when the Commanders selected him fourth in the NFL Draft, before moving to the 49ers in 2019.
Williams’ San Francisco colleague, Charvarius Ward, revealed in October that his one-year-old daughter Amani Joy had died. Last year, Ward announced that his daughter was born with Down syndrome and two holes in her heart.
‘She was the best blessing we could have asked for, and her joyful nature made us smile from ear to ear,’ Ward stated.
