Jahmyr Gibbs has been one of the NFL’s finest playmakers, contributing to the Detroit Lions’ No. 1 scoring offense. The second-year running back may have received a scolding from head coach Dan Campbell after a recent social media post purported to divulge some of the Lions’ playbook.
Screenshots of a post by Gibbs that went viral Saturday purported to show fellow running back Jermar Jefferson, who is on the Lions’ practice squad and shares a position meeting room with Gibbs, posing or dancing. Behind Jefferson, there is a whiteboard with apparent offensive play calls and “drop-back protections,” including at least 13 visible code names for individual plays.
Campbell was taken by surprise when asked about Gibbs’ post on Saturday. “Oh, I didn’t know that,” he replied, requesting the reporter to repeat the player’s name. “I didn’t know that. Yes, I need to look into that. I wasn’t aware of that. Yeah, I’d rather not have our stuff out there.
Gibbs, 22, has shared touches with running back David Montgomery this season and is expected to continue to see a lot of action against the Green Bay Packers in Week 14. He’s just days removed from earning 87 yards on nine attempts in Detroit’s Thanksgiving victory over the rival Chicago Bears, increasing his season rushing total to 973 yards, which is already a career record, surpassing his rookie-year total of 945.
