Following a very terrible 2024 NFL season, the San Francisco 49ers will be an interesting club to watch this offseason. They still have some work to do to regain their position at the top of the NFC.
They’ve already made a huge move. The 49ers agreed to trade wide receiver Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders in return for a fifth-round draft pick. That sets the tone for San Francisco’s potentially aggressive offseason.
Looking over the roster, there are several areas where the 49ers could improve. Defensively, they could look for another linebacker to partner with Fred Warner. With that in mind, one fascinating splash name has been proposed as a potential target for the San Francisco 49ers.
Tyler Brooke of The 33rd Team speculated that the 49ers could be a strong contender for Philadelphia Eagles free agent linebacker Zack Baun.
“Instead of hoping one of their recent late-round picks will become a starting-caliber inside linebacker alongside Warner, the 49ers should take a swing at a veteran like Baun. That kind of deal could limit their ability to make other moves or extensions, especially with an upcoming deal for Brock Purdy on the horizon.”
Baun is coming off of a big season for the Eagles. He was a huge part of leading Philadelphia to a Super Bowl win.
Throughout the course of the 2024 season, Baun played in 16 games. He racked up 151 total tackles to go along with 3.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, an interception, and four defended passes.
At 28 years old, the San Francisco 49ers would be adding a player that could contribute both now and in the future. He would be an ideal match for the 49ers’ defensive scheme.
