Aidan Hutchinson made an incredible start to the 2024 season with the Detroit Lions, with 7.5 sacks before suffering an injury in the fifth game. Hutchinson had a severe leg injury while playing for the Lions against the Dallas Cowboys, forcing him to miss the rest of the season. His rehabilitation is almost over.
Aidan Hutchinson had a different injury at Michigan that ended his season. That was difficult, but nothing compared to what he had to go through this season.
“I’ve had a season-ending injury before, but that tibia break was an absolute monster,” Hutchinson stated during an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show. “I stayed in the hospital in Dallas for like a couple of days after I got hurt there and those were probably the two most miserable days I ever had in my whole life.”
When Hutchinson first suffered the injury, it appeared that he wouldn’t be able to return until the following season. After a few weeks, there was talk of a possible return to the Super Bowl. The Lions received the No. 1 seed in the NFC, but were defeated in the Divisional round of the playoffs by the Washington Commanders. Now we’ll never know if Hutchinson could have played.
“You never know, I think so,” Hutchinson responded, when asked if he would have played in the Super Bowl. “Maybe I wouldn’t. Maybe I would. However, the world will never know. I feel fantastic; we’ll finish therapy shortly, and I’ll be able to move on with my life.”
Aidan Hutchinson is not just one of the Lions’ top defensive players, but also one of the best in the NFL. Losing him wounded the Detroit defense terribly, and Lions fans can’t wait to see him back on the field in 2025. Hutchinson was on track for a spectacular season before the injury, so we’ll see whether he can replicate it next year. If you’ve been following him since his days at Michigan, you know that this setback will only serve to strengthen him.
