Ohio State head coach Ryan Day would be willing to allow LeBron James join his football team, but the four-time NBA MVP would have to compete for a position like everyone else. For his part, James is content with the arrangement. “I don’t mind Coach Day! “Earned, Not Given,” James wrote on social media.
One week after Ohio State won the first 12-team College Football Playoff, Day came on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” and was shown a post written by James in 2022.
“Do I have college eligibility if I play a sport other than basketball?” “How does that rule work?” James wrote.
Fallon, knowing the Ohio native is a longtime Buckeye supporter who cheered the team to victory over Notre Dame, approached Coach Day about James playing football for Ohio State. Day is accustomed to being surrounded by top athletes, including recent first-round draft picks C.J. Stroud and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, as well as potential prospects Caleb Downs and Jeremiah Smith.
But James is basketball royalty. Despite this, Day stated that the NBA legend would not be allowed to cut any lines. “LeBron is an avid supporter. With that said, he’d have to begin with the freshmen in the back of the room and work his way forward. “He doesn’t get any special treatment,” Day explained.
James has previously considered playing football at the college and professional levels. James is best recognized for his basketball abilities, but he was also an outstanding wide receiver in high school at St. Vincent-St. Mary in Akron, Ohio. He was even recruited by Ohio State, which was coached by Jim Tressel at the time. More recently, James informed Jason and Travis Kelce that he considered playing in the NFL during the NBA’s lockout-shortened season.
