The Chicago Bears signed Ben Johnson to help develop Caleb Williams and return the squad to the playoffs. However, the team may lose some crucial players to free agency before Johnson even orders a play. Last offseason, the Bears traded for Keenan Allen. Allen signed a four-year, $80 million contract extension with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2020.
Last season was the final year of his contract. He had a below-average season but could still find suitors in free agency. TWSN’s Blake Meek projected that Allen will leave the Bears and join the Buffalo Bills.
“The Bills don’t have a great receiving group,” Meek said. “They traded for Amari Cooper throughout the season, but the deal never really worked out. Keon Coleman appears to be a competent receiver for them, but I doubt he will ever be the team’s number one option. The same may be stated for Khalil Shakir.
He is a good receiver, but his performance as a number one option leaves plenty to be desired. However, adding those two receivers to Keenan Allen creates a formidable three-man group that, while lacking an excellent number one receiver, provides three receivers for defenses to cover and pay attention to.
Allen is a six-time Pro Bowler with 11,274 career yards. He was a pro bowler as recently as 2023. Last season, he accumulated 744 yards and seven touchdowns in 15 games. Playing alongside Josh Allen and the opportunity to win a Super Bowl may be an intriguing option for him in free agency.
