The Buffalo Bills will need to make some acquisitions during the upcoming NFL summer to fill some of the gaps that have shown during the 2024 season. The Bills could use more talent at the linebacker position.
Buffalo’s defense needs more help in the middle, but they don’t need to overspend. If a bargain deal comes up, they should pursue it. Dre Greenlaw, a linebacker from the San Francisco 49ers, could be a potential fit for Buffalo during NFL free agency.
“The Bills are projected to field around only $3 million in cap space going into next year, but there’s a chance they could land a player of Greenlaw’s caliber, given his injury history,” Locker claimed. “When Greenlaw is on the field, there is little doubt about his abilities. Between 2022 and 2023, Greenlaw was 14th in PFF overall grade (78.2) and seventh in PFF coverage grade (84.0) among qualified linebackers. If the finances could be sorted out, he’d jump from one competitor to the next and fill a significant void.
Greenlaw may be a huge asset to the Bills if he stays healthy and they work out a deal with him. There is a lot that needs to happen, but he is exactly the impact player Buffalo requires.
Greenlaw appeared in only two NFL games with the 49ers in 2024. However, in the 2023 season, he appeared in 15 games and recorded 120 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and four defended passes. When he’s healthy, Greenlaw is a tackle machine. He’s also a leader. Only time will tell, and it’s possible that the Bills will show no interest in Greenlaw. However, if they want to make a significant addition and the price is right, he could be a viable alternative.
All that being said, this is only an idea, not a report of expected interest; Greenlaw will be a sleeper free agent target for a number of teams, including Buffalo.
