Aidan Hutchinson broke both the fibula and the tibia in his left leg against the Cowboys in Week 6. At the time, Lions coach Dan Campbell described it as a season-ending injury that would keep the edge rusher out for 4-6 months.
Hutchinson approaches the three-month mark, and Campbell provided an update on Tuesday. “He has a season-ending injury, but if anyone can come back from it, it’s Aidan,” Campbell said, per Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. So Hutchinson is likely gone for the season, unless he isn’t.
Hutchinson was leading the league in sacks with 7.5 when he sustained an injury that necessitated emergency surgery in Dallas. He has publicly stated that he is “on track” to return for Super Bowl LIX on Feb. 9 if the Lions make it, but that is a long shot.
