The Chicago Bears entered the 2024 season with great expectations. It appeared sturdy for the first third of the season, but the wheels have come off. Shane Waldron, the offensive coordinator, was the first coach fired. Matt Eberflus, the team’s head coach, was fired after only a few weeks. As a result, Thomas Brown quickly rose through the organization’s coaching ranks. He began the season as the pass game coordinator before taking over as offensive coordinator when Waldron was fired. After a few weeks, the team promoted him to interim head coach. GM Ryan Poles said that Brown will have a formal interview in the coming weeks.
The Chicago Bears will formally interview Thomas Brown.
The team hasn’t changed much under Thomas Brown. They’ve dropped four straight and will finish the season against the Packers (at halftime as of this writing). Ryan Poles, on the other hand, was impressed with what he had accomplished for the Chicago Bears organization and announced that he would be given a formal interview.
“He will be interviewed, and I am excited to hear his comments. Because he has been here. He’s been here, he’s seen and pondered on the past, how we got here, and why the consequences are what they are. So I’m looking forward to hearing his perspective on how we got here and how he plans to repair it.” “I’ve been quite impressed with Thomas and his leadership. I know the findings haven’t arrived. He was put in a very difficult predicament. I grew up in an industry where you can make more, and that’s how we ended up here with Thomas. I think he did a great job.”
We’ve seen in recent years that strong leaders are more likely to succeed. The Detroit Lions have been successful under Dan Campbell because the squad rallies around him. It is what makes Mike Vrabel a popular coaching candidate during this hiring cycle. Poles is thrilled with what he’s seen in the locker room, and the players appear to be responding as well.
A courtesy interview
I’d be stunned if the Chicago Bears hired Thomas Brown as their head coach. He began the year as a passing game coordinator, and they are interviewing him out of politeness. To promote him to head coach less than a year later would be problematic. If the club was undefeated and improving dramatically under his leadership, this may make sense. However, the team’s progress has been negligible. Furthermore, given the caliber of available prospects, the Bears can do better.
They have a desirable job. Caleb Williams has looked impressive in his first season. He still needs to improve, but he has demonstrated that he can be a starting quarterback in the NFL. Rome Odunze has slowly progressed, and the defense boasts some promising future stars. With some better coaching, this club could easily make a playoff run in the NFC next season. Final Thoughts Over half of the NFL teams are nearing the end of their season. The Chicago Bears are one of many teams who must decide who to hire to run their organization. Who will they eventually go with?
