On Sunday morning, the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets completed a major transaction. A former Philadelphia 76ers lottery pick was included in the deal, and Shake Milton is now headed west to join his fifth club since leaving the Sixers. Los Angeles acquired two role players from Brooklyn in Dorian Finney-Smith and Milton. Meanwhile, the Nets reunited with former guard D’Angelo Russell.
As Russell parted ways with the Lakers for the second time in his career, former Lakers veteran Nick Young delivered a mysterious message on social media, which many assumed was intended for Russell. @NickSwagyPYoung: And stay out. Don’t bring your *** back to LA.
Between 2007 and 2018, Young worked for six different organizations. Following his time in Philadelphia, Young joined the Lakers, where he played with a young Russell. Russell was selected second overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2015 NBA Draft. The conflict with Russell and Young was quite public.
It turns out that time did not mend their friendship. Russell’s initial stint with the Lakers ended after two seasons. He went to Brooklyn for the second stint of his career and averaged 19 points while shooting 43 percent from the field and 36 percent from three. Russell also recorded six assists and four rebounds per game.
Russell spent time with the Golden State Warriors and the Minnesota Timberwolves after his initial tenure in Brooklyn ended, before signing with the Lakers again. Russell averaged 17 points, three rebounds, and six assists the previous two seasons, shooting 45 percent from the field and 40 percent from three.
