The Toronto Blue Jays entered the offseason with rumored ambitions to elevate their squad to the next level. Toronto was apparently interested in signing Juan Soto, Max Fried, and Corbin Burnes, but a few weeks later, the Blue Jays were left empty-handed as these superstars signed elsewhere.
With that in mind, it’s increasingly likely that the Blue Jays will deal expiring shortstop Bo Bichette this winter. If they want to do so, Bleacher Report’s Zachary Rymer believes the Atlanta Braves are the best option. Rymer also proposed a one-for-one trade, which might send Bichette to Atlanta.
Here’s the deal pitched by Rymer to send Bichette to the Braves:
“Orlando Arcia was an All-Star as recently as 2023, but he was an iffy selection even then and his stock has plummeted since,” Rymer noted. “This year, he hit just .218 and earned 0.5 rWAR. Otherwise, the Braves should be thinking about the big picture. They were a superteam entering this season, but injuries and shockingly poor performances reduced them to an 89-win shell. “And so far this winter, they’ve been silent while other National League contenders have stocked up. Although Atlanta’s system lacks talent, it does have a lot of pitching depth. That’s what the Blue Jays should aim for if the Braves inquire about Bichette.
Bichette is a good player with the potential to return to All-MLB form, but trading 18-year-old Cam Caminiti to the Blue Jays appears to be too high a price to pay. Bichette has the potential to be one of the league’s best shortstops, but his contract is up, so selling Atlanta’s top prospect does not seem practical.
I could see the Braves being a good fit for Bichette, but it would most likely be a pitching prospect like Hurston Waldrep rather than Caminiti.
