The Atlanta Braves need to upgrade at shortstop. After failing to add a long-term option this winter, they may attempt to sign the Blue Jays’ starting shortstop in 2025. Orlando Arcia had a disappointing season after his All-Star performance in 2023. FanSided’s Steven Teal recommended the Braves to sign Bo Bichette next winter to replace Arcia. Arcia’s OPS dropped from.741 to.625 last season. He has a club option for 2026, which the Braves may refuse in favor of signing a quality player like Bichette.
Bichette had a bad season in 2024, although it appears to be more of an aberration. He was an All-Star in both 2021 and 2023. He topped the American League in hits in both 2021 and 2022. Before last season, he had a.299 batting average. In 2024, though, he only hit.225. According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Braves might still acquire Bichette this offseason, but he would not come cheap in a deal.
“However, the Jays do not appear to be shopping Bichette. Executives from three rival clubs, who requested anonymity for their candor, claimed the Jays are willing to trade him, but only for a high price,” Rosenthal said. “Good luck, with Bichette coming off a bad year, under club control for only one more season, and earning $16.5 million in 2025. He also finished the season with a broken finger that required surgery, but he is expected to be ready for spring training.
Bichette signed a three-year, $33 million extension in 2023. He will be a hot name in free agency and the Braves should be in play.
