On Thursday night, the Detroit Lions narrowly defeated their archrival Green Bay Packers 34-31. Green Bay fought hard, but Dan Campbell and company are firing on all cylinders right now. With a 12-1 record, they maintain their position as the first seed.
Calvin Johnson, a Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver and Lions great, joined Up & Adams on Friday to discuss the one thing that may stop this team right now.
“Ourselves. Turning the ball over.Only when we shoot ourselves in the foot will this team cease. “That and injuries,” Johnson added.
You know you’re a good team when the only thing standing in your way is yourself. Despite not having the healthiest squad, the Lions continue to score points on offensively and hold down the fort on defense.
However, they did allow Green Bay to claw back and nearly win the game because they either handed the ball over or made coverage errors. Such occurrences cannot occur again, especially given the increased competition in January and probably February.
In the NFC playoffs, the Lions might face talented offensive clubs like the Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings, or Packers.
While Detroit may be the top team in the NFC right now based on its record, it demonstrated on Thursday night that it could be beaten by anyone if it gets in its own way.
